We were looking for a place to eat while being in Shirakawa-go and we have the fortune to find Karyudo. The ambient is very home like and calm. The food was simply amazing. We ordered the burger set and the meat just simply melts in your mouth . For dessert we had dango sets and the combination of both sweet and salty was incredible. This place complemented perfectly my trip to the village. Loved it ! <3

I stumbled across this place by accident when walking around Shirakawa on a very wet Tuesday. The lady running the place was very friendly and accommodating , and although I was by myself she gave me a seat beside two older ladies. I ordered the pork with rice. The food quality was excellent , it was very nicely presented and also very affordable. Highly recommended !

It’s a restaurant that also serves Japanese sweets, which is why I stopped by. I love mitarashi dango (みたらし団子) and gohei mochi (五平餅), which the area is known for. They have a little takeout window, so I ordered both. The dango was nice but the gohei mochi was fantastic. It’s worth a stop when you visit.

After exploring the beautiful Shirakawago, stopped by this humble shop as we were scavenging for lunch. The food were surprisingly good, we enjoyed Yaki Soba and ordered 2! The rest of the food are not bad, typical good Japanese food with Hida beef. Do stop by and give it a try, not much option there actually.

Simple Gyu and Pork Don which taste great. Standard Japan customary where the premises is quite stuffy. One serving staff and one kitchen staff hence service requires patience.

Grabbed a donburi rice bowl topped with hilda beef, miso soup and a small bowl of appetizers. Remember to apply wasabi to the beef. This will lift the taste to another level. The beef is soft. The sauce is refreshing. The owner and the attendant are diligent and friendly. One should visit this restaurant without hesitation if there is no people lining up.

Tasty meal at a great price. Very grateful I got in just before they closed. I ordered the dunbori with hida beef, which came with Miso Soup and pickles - all for 1100 yen. Well worth it and had a great view. . Not to mention everywhere else was take out only and required you to sit outside in 90°+.

I was happy with my light lunch, the onigiri set came with a heated up onigiri, a miso soup that would have benefited from some shichimi tougarashi and the pickles were a tiny plate but it was satisfying overall and ambiance and service were nice. Also very fair prices considering it's a major tourist hotspot.
